My writing concept

Posted on: 09/07/07

My writing concept

I write children's stories as a hobby.  The land called Make-Believe is a place in my mind I came across and named when I wrote one of my children's stories one beautiful August day.  It didn't get named until a few drafts later.  Make-Believe remains its name.

I fly on wings of inspiration to get there and can return as quick as a heartbeat.  Time does not stand still in the real world while I'm visiting Make-Believe.

I have actually not been inside Make-Believe.  What I do is I come to the entrance door and I slip the key out of the keyhole and look inside.  It is a lively place of vivid color and sound.  The funny thing is, the scene through the keyhole changes from time to time, allowing me to see different locations.  While writing my most recent story about pigs, I got to see the same characters until I finished the story.  That was a relief.

I could call myself a reporter or chronicler, writing down the going's on I see and hear.   But that's not really what happens.  When I'm there, I don't have anything with which to record my notes.  I keep the details noted in my head.  Then, when I make time to write, I remember what I saw and what I can't see I fill in with my imagination, a guesstimate of what was going on.  Sometimes my guesstimates are off, and I have to rewrite the draft I'm working on.

Note: Next point to elaborate (Sometimes the scenes are still, without any movement or sound.  Sometimes I can see the action without hearing the sounds.  Sometimes it's the other way around.  Sometimes still scenes will become animated.  All in all, visiting there is quite fun.)
